Sales Person Relaxation Exercise

 Visualize Success

Use one of the relaxation exercises to get in the right physical state.  Then, picture yourself entering the client’s office or workplace.  Imaging yourself taking out your materials.  Pay attention in your mind to the sights and sounds around you.  Visualize yourself making the greatest presentation of your life (do this every time) and see the client agreeing with you.  Finally, see yourself shaking hands with the client to close the deal.  You have successfully made another sale in your mind.

This is one way to plan for your sales call.  This positive visualization gives you the confidence and belief that you will make it come true in the real world.  Sometimes we run into snags, however, even in our own imaginations.  These snags can be major or minor obstacles  such as images of competitors or your negative self telling you the sale will never happen.

If this occurs, use a technique called “thought stopping”.  Just stop thinking about the situation and instead start thinking of something positive.  Create a vivid picture of that positive event to get yourself back into the proper mindset.  When you are in the right frame of mind, you can restart your visualization.

Another approach to thought stopping is to say the word STOP as loud as you can in your mind.  Blast it so loud that you must concentrate on the stop and nothing else.  Once you are focused on the word stop, you will be diversed from the negative images that were beginning to play in your mind.  This technique gives you time to reset yourself to positively visualize your desired outcomes.

Here are several areas where visualization can help you.  Obviously, visualizing and using imagery related to your performance as a sales person is at the top of the list.  After that use visualization to improve yourself in this areas :

  • Personal development and growth,
  • Achievements and accomplishments,
  • Health and well being,
  • Fantasy-let your mind go wherever it want to
  • Peak Performance.
